Inman's Ranch House Bar-B-Que

Marble Falls, TX

I’ve always enjoyed it when a business operates out of a literal house. Some of my favorite bars, restaurants, and shops that I’ve visited over the years are essentially houses zoned for commercial use. I’m not exactly sure why this is more common in some places and not others, but it probably has something to do with labyrinthine regulations and local politics.

Anyways, an actual house is a great place to house a business, and Inman’s Ranch House Bar-B-Q was way ahead of the curve on this one. They've been around since 1964. According to one of the employees, the building was built in 1950 and has been in the family since 1958. They make their own barbecue sauce, cole slaw, and still sort the beans out on a table.

If you're looking for white tablecloths and artisan hand soap in the bathroom, this place ain't it. However, if you enjoy a historic, worn-in establishment, friendly service, and a nice price, Inman's is worth a stop. Personally, I'm a fan of turkey sausage and a turkey "wrap" is just $6.50. I also liked how they package the sausage in wax paper and seal it with a toothpick. Restaurants don't stay in business for nearly 60 years for no reason, so if you're in the area, give it a shot.

Here are some choice excerpts from online reviews:

  • "I give them the award for the sketchiest BBQ place in TX bar none!"

  • "The real reason for going, in my mind, is the Turkey Sausage which, in my estimation, the best turkey sausage I've ever had."

  • "Their tap water taste worse then water hose water."

  • "Best turkey sausage—a must stop for visitors. Place has been around forever and can't help feeling nostalgic when I see their tire rim man waving hello."
